John is a pragmatic and incisive advisor, delivering clarity and focus on key issues for his clients across even the broadest IP portfolios.
John has degrees in mechatronics engineering and law from the University of Auckland. He began working part-time in at one of New Zealand’s leading IP firms towards the end of his university studies. After completing his university studies, John moved into a full-time role and qualified as a patent attorney in record time.
In addition to working at one of New Zealand’s leading IP firms, John’s work experience prior to establishing Flint IP includes several years at a global law firm.
John provides advice on a range of technology-focussed IP areas, focussing on IP in relation to electrical, mechatronics, and computer technologies. He has experience working with large businesses and in-house patent attorneys to identify, protect, and manage IP portfolios across broad product ranges.
Some of John’s notable areas of experience include advising on IP matters for computer systems and computer architecture, robotics and control systems, electrical systems, home appliances, image and video processing, mobile communications equipment, and technology standards (including telecommunication standards).
