John has worked with both large and small clients within leading IP firms, as well as in-house for a large multinational corporation and a university technology transfer office. This breadth of experience allows him to tailor his advice to suit each client’s objectives, risk tolerance, and stage of growth.
John holds a PhD in Electrical and Electronic Engineering and has advised on inventions spanning electrical, mechanical, and computer-implemented technologies. He enjoys the challenge of understanding and protecting innovations ranging from complex systems to elegant engineering solutions to well-known problems.
John is qualified as a patent attorney in Australia and New Zealand. John worked in the UK for 4 years. He is qualified as a UK patent attorney and has passed the qualifying examinations for European patent attorneys (EQE). This strengthens his international outlook and awareness of global strategy decisions.
John has particular experience across home appliances, wireless power transfer, mining, energy storage, home automation, control systems, medical devices, sensing technologies, and space-related technologies.
From his experience in-house, John understands the importance of providing clear, commercially focused IP advice to internal stakeholders and decision-makers to help and identify risks and opportunities that inform product development and strategic decisions. He enjoys working closely with founders, engineers, and inventors, and is known for translating complex technical and legal issues into clear, actionable advice.
